The Name Game

We're having a hard time coming up with possible names for our baby boy. Here's a story that best illustrates how the search has gone so far:

Last week, I emailed Jamie a short list of names that I like. I added one to the end of the list that I hadn't previously mentioned. He emailed back, in reference to that particular name, "Could we call him {shorter version} as a nickname?"

I was excited - finally, a name that neither of us hated! It wasn't necessarily the name we would definitely want to use, but it was the first one we had semi-agreed on!! Progress!!

I emailed back that I wouldn't mind calling him the shorter version, and went on my day relieved, and content in the knowledge that this whole name thing wasn't hopeless, after all.

That night, I brought up the name again, and Jamie - incredulous - admitted that he thought I was kidding when I brought it up, and that his reply was never meant to be taken seriously.

(sigh)

Choosing a name is a difficult thing, but I know you two will agree on the perfect name for your baby boy!

So frustrating! I know you'll find the perfect moniker - and I am excited for the day when you announce it. Keep up the naming conversation!

That is so funny. :) I had to chuckle out loud. I know the perfect name will come to you both in good time.

Names are seeming like the hardest part of pregnancy! John will only acknowledge a name if he really hates it. So I have no idea he likes it either! I guess there is plenty of time to worry about a name though, and we find out on July 1st what our little one is!

I use to call Jason and say "(name)" is really moving today. Just to try out names and see if anything fit. Taylor was actually at the bottom of our list and then one day it just stuck.

Haha! That makes me think of the lists I would give Matt, and he would give them back with every single name crossed off. :)
