Paris, France - 12/22/00

12/22/00

He's not here.  He left his tickets by the phone and couldn't get on the plane, so he'll get here tomorrow morning.  This has been just about the crappiest day of my life.  I woke up at 3:30am to find a note under my door, all in red pen, telling me to call my mom for something very, very urgent, underlined.  A bunch of times.  I thought someone had died - Jamie's plane had gone down or one of the kids had a car accident in the bad weather... Andrea answered the phone and laughed when I asked what was wrong; she said she'd get Jamie.  And I didn't even realize then that he should have been on a plane and not there.  Now I'm just mad and worn out.  I've never been so disappointed in my life.  He was supposed to be here today.  I was so excited, and now I'm in a hotel in Paris alone instead of with him.  Now it doesn't seem real that he's coming since he's not here now.  I've just been pretending this whole time that he's coming to see me.  I'm not excited anymore.  I still want to see him, of course, but now it's just like he's not coming at all.  I wonder if I'll even be excited tomorrow.  Today just wore me out.  I went to the train station on the first bus (I got there at 6) to change my ticket so I wouldn't be charged, and the guy there told me to use the same ticket, so that was a waste of time.  I went back to Cézeaux and slept for another hour and a half, then went back to the gare to take the 10:18am train.  It was a 3 1/2 hour train ride... I got here (to Paris) at 2pm and then finally got to the hotel at 4pm.  Today just sucked.  I had dinner by myself here... I'll be paying for the night here, plus about 200francs for dinner/breakfast and a call to Matt and Nat and I'm all by myself.  It just was not a good day.  The room is nice, but it would be a whole lot nicer if he were here, like he's supposed to be.  I'm just really unhappy.  I'm not at all excited now that he's coming, because it just doesn't feel like he really is.  All my excitement was for today, and he's not here.  I just don't have the energy to be excited anymore.  I just feel like hitting him for disappointing me so horribly, and then crying in his arms for a long, long time.  I love you, sweetie.  I'm just not happy right now.

[He really did try to make the plane - he made it to the airport in Tulsa, and inside the terminal after being dropped off, before realizing the tickets were back at my parents' house.  Ended up taking a cab back, had to get let in by a neighbor, and made it back to the airport just a little too late.  He felt TERRIBLE.]

France - 12/21/00

12/21/00

TOMORROW!!!  He gets on his plane in less than an hour.  To come see me!!!  I did all my cleaning and packing tonight and managed to fit everything (the heavy gifts and all my clothes) into my suitcase.  I'll also have my backpack and a small plastic bag for the rest of the gifts.  He'll be here tomorrow!  I'm going to write in his Christmas card now.  I'm so excited.  It's not quite 11:00, so I'll be in bed fairly early.  I have to wake up at 3:45, so I should get about 4 1/2 hours sleep!  A lot more than I thought I would.  I love you, sweetheart!

France - 12/20/00

12/20/00

He's coming soon!  I got to talk to both him and Andrea (a little) tonight.  And Matt & Nat, who are going to have a little niece or nephew for me!  Billy Elliot was really good tonight, as was dinner (Chinese).  Zack came, and it was nice seeing him again.  I painted my toes tonight and also wrapped all the gifts; the wrapping looks terrible!  Tomorrow I have to do all my packing and cleaning... I think it'll take me a long time, but I can handle it.  My CD player is making clicking noises.  I ordered the first Mrs. Pollifax book on the French Amazon site today, and found a picture of Mel Gibson that really does look like Dad!  Time to get ready for bed... I hope my toes are dry enough to go between the sheets!  I love you, Jamie!

Stitch Fix #10

Stitch Fix is a personal shopper service that I've enjoyed for a few months now.  (I hate shopping for clothes for myself!)  You pay a $20 styling fee for each Fix, and 5 items are sent to you.  You can request certain kinds of items, and they're sent based on a sizing & style profile that you fill out beforehand.  You can even request a certain price range for each type of item ("as cheap as possible" for jewelry, $50-$100 for pants, etc).  The $20 is applied to anything you purchase from your Fix, and if you buy the entire box you get a 25% discount.  (If you don't buy anything, you lose the $20.)

For Fix #10 - the "we'll rectify our mistakes" Fix sent soon after #9, I had the same requests as Fix #9 - easy tops (no ironing) that would show off my waist.

First up was the "Honalei" Cable Knit Sweater Tank from Skies Are Blue ($44):

I almost kept this one.  It fit well and was really comfortable.  I really wish it had been a different color - something less wintery and more springy.  I would have kept it, but overall I was ambivalent enough to send it back.

Next up was Paradigma's "Selda" blouse ($68):

This was just... okay.  Jamie said it looked like something an old lady would wear when trying to be fashionable.  The print wasn't bad, but I didn't love that it was sheer, and it really didn't do anything for me.  Sent it back.

Next out of the box was 41Hawthorn's "Trinidad" top ($48):

Nope.  The neckline wasn't good on me, it was too small around my hips (Check out the back view. Ouch.), and the pale green and cream print washed me out.

Papermoon's "Mirsilla" knit top ($58) was next:

Awful!  Not sure why this was in my Fix - it went completely against the "show off my waist - nothing boxy" part of my request.  Jamie said it looked like I had tried to do something fancy with an old, stretched-out sweatshirt of his.  It looked terrible.

Last up was Laila Jayde's "Keene" top ($48):

Yay!!  A keeper!!  I loved this.  And it's something I never would have picked out for myself.  It's long and strangely-shaped until you put it on, but I really loved it once it was on.  Ultra-comfy, flattering, won't have to iron it.  I would love to get it in another color, too.

1 out of 5 isn't too bad - I got a new shirt that I loved, and learned that I actually like dolman tops on me.  Looking forward to my next Fix!

If you'd like to try Stitch Fix for yourself, I'd love for you to use my referral link.  (I'd get a credit if you order a box.)

France - 12/19/00

12/19/00

I'M GOING TO BE AN AUNT!  Natalie's tentative due date is August 23rd.  Sydney if it's a girl, possibly Nathaniel if it's a boy.  I'm pretty excited!!  I finished all of my Christmas shopping today and did laundry.  Tomorrow is cleaning, wrapping gifts, and manicure/pedicure, and Thursday is packing.  G.L. was out of the Armani sets, so I just got Jamie the cologne.  I'm going to be an aunt!!!  Time to go to bed.  I love you, Jamie!!

France - 12/18/00

12/18/00

Talked to Jamie really quick tonight - he said we should just stay at the Holiday Inn even if the Charrons could let us use their place.  I called them right afterward & they said they would be there for the holidays, so everything worked out alright.  I'm done with teaching for a couple weeks!  And Jamie is coming on Friday!  I have a lot to do this week - buy gifts, wrap everything, clean, do hand-laundry and regular laundry, and pack.  Besides keeping up with classes, of course.  Time for bed.  Oh - Jamie got first place in his fantasy football league.  I love you, sweetie!!!

Stitch Fix #9

This was Fix #9 for me, and it was a dud.  I had requested all tops, knits only so that I wouldn't have to do any ironing, and things that weren't boxy and would definitely show off my waist.

First out of the box was Daniel Rainn's "Lanette" silk blouse ($74):

I liked the color and the detail on the front, but silk didn't fit into my "no ironing, please" request.  And $74?  No, thanks.

Next was another by Daniel Rainn - the "Tamarack" silk blouse ($78):

I wish I had taken a picture of this before I tucked it under.  It's incredibly long.  And silk, again, which defeats the "no ironing, please" request.  And $78.  Nope.

Next was Market & Spruce's "Austin" shirt ($44):

I loved the mix of prints on this one, but that's where my affections ended.   The front was made from a very thin, sheer material (cami required) that wasn't flattering.  The back was super-wrinkly and way too long.  Sending it back.

Next up was Pixley's "Miandra" top ($54):

The wrinkle-prone fabric, tight-across-the-bust fit, and weirdly-placed open seams (seriously, what's up with those?) made this a "no."

The final piece was Ezra's "Madera" top ($48).  I loved this one right out of the box.  Pretty colors, mixed prints, floral & stripes, soft material... and then I tried it on.

No, I am not pregnant.  Nor am I as wide as a house, as these pictures suggest.  This was going back.

I sent everything back to Stitch Fix and then emailed customer service.  I wanted honest answers to my questions - Was I really that hard to fit?  Was it that hard to find things to fit my requests?  I didn't think my requests had been that difficult or particular.

I got an answer back immediately.  The Stitch Fix rep said he had reviewed my past Fixes and purchases and had noticed some mistakes in what had been sent.  He offered to send me another box immediately, waiving the styling fee.  I accepted, and you'll see the results of that in my next review.

If you'd like to try Stitch Fix for yourself, I'd love for you to use my referral link.  (If you order a Fix, I get credit to my account.)
